
Who We Are
BECA (Belvedere East Civic Association) was established to represent the interests of the ratepayers and residents of the BECA neighbourhood, an area predominantly encompassing Lower Claremont – a suburb to the east of Belvedere Road. BECA’s perimeter comprises Belvedere Road (to the west), the M5 (to the east), Chichester Road to Garfield Road ; Garfield Road to Imam Haron Road ; Imam Haron Road to the M5 (to the south), and Milner & Kromboom Roads (to the north).
BECA forms part of the City of Cape Town’s Ward 58 that is represented by Councillor Kate Christie, alongside other civic associations in Claremont, Rondebosch and Kenilworth.
Our Vision
To make our BECA civic the best it can be in terms of security and appearance, accountability, responsibility, community and care.
BECA PROMOTES :
- effective municipal representation of the area
- the development and advancement of the area and in particular address issues concerning the existing and future use of land
- improve security of our area
- the development and use of parks
- issues relating to traffic
- the condition of municipal infrastructure in the area
- preserve the area’s heritage by maintaining and promoting its
historical value - any other matters arising that are of concern to ratepayers or
residents
BECA has been effective in following up on unauthorised building works, tracking building developments that impact on traffic in the area, the illegal establishment of businesses in residential areas, illegal dumping, and is in ongoing communication with the City on a range of issues. BECA is currently organising and fundraising for the installation of additional security cameras in the area for our protection.
