WHY JOIN BECA
BECA is not funded by Council or any organisation. If we don’t take a stand and get involved with our community – safety, roads, parks, escalation of CoCT service issues, infrastructure, problem buildings, vagrants, crime, bin-pickers, litter – then our community will continue to bear the brunt of these problems.
Council does not have the funds to deal with these problems yet, and if we want anything done in the interim, it is up to us to find the money.
We need to become pro-active and make our area safer and this means we need to put our hands in our own pockets, not only some people that live here, but every resident that lives here, so that we all share the costs.
To this end, we charge a small Joining Fee and an Annual Membership Fee. We rely on Memberships, Donations and specific Fund Raising Projects in order for us to cover our projects.
HOW MONIES ARE SPENT IN THE COMMUNITY
- Operating costs such as audit fees, bank charges, accounting software, printing and stationery, advertising, website and emails.
- Crime prevention measures such as installation of cameras, monitoring, maintenance, activation, closing up entry and exit hotspots are the bulk of our expenditure. In order to develop our security, we need more members and an increased membership fee.
- Park cleaning and maintenance measures, including cleaning up litter, glass, needles and other unmentionable things that are dumped. We want to extend this into the street areas and verges. Other projects include maintenance of the area’s fencing, walls, and other infrastructure.
- Building plan objections, heritage regulations, problem buildings and undesirable businesses that affect the well-being of our residents. We need additional resources to support this portfolio.
- Events and community building – we want neighbours and community strength to be built up. If we all look after one another and keep an eye out for each other, then we will all be safe.
TRANSPARENCY OF FUNDS COLLECTED AND SPENT
This is a new and very important area of governance. We plan on registering as a Non Profit Organisation, and also hopefully a Public Benefit Organisation. Should we succeed as a PBO then all your contributions will be tax deductible.
We do not accept cash, and we invoice every amount received. We also ensure money spent is well-spent and quotes are obtained. We will be drawing up audited financial statements and we aim to be as open as possible with all monies that you entrust to us.
HOW YOU CAN HELP US
What we can do is only limited by the amount of money we can collect. Please be supportive of this and help us to grow. Feel free to donate to the cause or sponsor a specific project. We need your support.
Become a BECA member to support us in making the BECA area safer and more pleasant for all.
Take Pride in our neighbourhood and be a good neighbour.
